Moving boxes for everything
Moving boxes are essential for every move — you can pack items from the kitchen, bathroom, living room, wardrobe, and more. Packing protects your belongings from damage, so choose the box type according to what you pack. What should you know and what should you consider when buying moving boxes?
Instead of packing everything together, divide items into categories and pack each category in separate boxes:
- Glass, porcelain, crystal, lamps and other fragile items
- Books, documents, magazines
- Clothes, blankets, bedding, toys
- Formal wardrobe / delicate clothing
- Computer equipment, TV equipment, cables, game consoles, games
- Medicines
- Cosmetics and other personal hygiene products
- Household chemicals and cleaning supplies
- Toys
- Food products
- Valuables
What should you pay attention to?
When choosing a moving box, pay attention to the size, the number of cardboard layers, the paper weight (gsm), and the closing method. First, pick the right size.
Sizes of moving boxes
There are many box sizes available, so choose the size based on your items.
Pack heavy items such as books, binders, and magazines in smaller 3-ply boxes.
Pack fragile items in a medium box with 5 layers of cardboard.
For large and light items such as clothes, blankets, bedding, and toys, use bigger boxes.
Remember: the most important rule is that a moving box should not exceed 30 kg.
How many layers should moving boxes have?
In addition to the box size, the number of cardboard layers matters. You can choose 3-ply or 5-ply boxes. As you can guess, the more layers a box has, the higher its load resistance.
Five-layer moving box
A good practice is to pack fragile items in a 5-ply box. Such a box provides higher safety because it is stronger under load. This allows you to stack boxes without worrying the bottom one will deform.
A 5-ply box should also be used for large boxes; otherwise the box may be unstable and deform while carrying or stacking.
Three-layer moving box
A 3-ply box should be used for items that are not fragile. It’s suitable for packing books, medicines, personal hygiene products, household chemicals, small toys, food products, and other small items. Ideally, such a box should have a solid paper weight of at least 450 g/m².
In summary, when choosing moving boxes, remember that the box size and type should match the items you’re packing. The rule is simple: use small boxes for heavy items, big boxes for light items, and stronger (more layers) boxes for fragile items.
How to pack moving boxes
Whether you use 3-ply or 5-ply boxes, pack correctly. Before packing, tape the bottom of the box. The box must be taped at the bottom — not just folded.
Before placing fragile items inside, wrap them in bubble wrap first, then place them in the box. Fill empty spaces with packing paper or bubble wrap so the items don’t move during carrying and transport, and so the box structure stays stronger.
Seal the top tightly with tape — this keeps boxes stable and prevents them from opening, reducing the risk of items falling out.
Label your moving boxes so they can go to the correct room. If a box contains fragile items, mark it clearly so the movers handle it carefully. Write what’s inside — it helps you find the items you want to unpack first.
It’s important that boxes are not too heavy — they should not exceed 30 kg. This is recommended both for the health of the people carrying them and for the safety of the items inside.
NEW – Wardrobe box

Clothes box – wardrobe box
If you need to pack delicate and elegant clothes you care about and don’t want them to get dirty or wrinkled, check our new product: the wardrobe box. You can pack jackets, shirts, coats, dresses, and more. A wardrobe box provides top-quality transport for your wardrobe.
With this solution you can move clothes from your closet into the box and from the box into the closet without removing them from hangers. An added benefit is that clothes won’t wrinkle during transport because they stay hanging — just like in your wardrobe. This means you don’t need to iron everything again.
Packing and unpacking is very simple, making the move faster and smoother.
Another advantage is that the cardboard wardrobe box does not leave odor on clothes, unlike LDPE plastic bags. That means you don’t have to wash items or take them to the dry cleaner after the move.
Where to buy moving boxes

Used boxes – is a moving box rental a good idea?
Many people consider used boxes because it’s a budget, quick option. In practice, it’s worth remembering that second-hand boxes (especially from an unknown source) may have dirt, odors, and in extreme cases can carry unwanted insects — including bed bugs. That’s why for personal items (clothes, bedding, textiles, children’s items) it’s safer to choose new, clean boxes — they’re stronger and give better hygiene control.

Which packing tape should you choose to seal a moving box?

Seal a moving box with packing tape — both on the bottom and on the top
During a move, tape is essential. It prevents your box from opening and spilling items.
In stores you’ll find different tapes with different adhesives, lengths, and widths. It’s worth choosing tape with strong initial tack and resistance to both low and high temperatures. Tapes based on Hot-Melt adhesive are a great choice — ideal for sealing both light and heavy moving boxes.
